Limited Capacity seats available

Participants in this session will learn: - Research-based principles of English learner instruction that inform the Arizona Language Development Approach (LDA) - The ways in which formative assessment can support educators and leaders to meet the goals of the LDA This session shares a newly created, research-based framework outlining the ways that formative assessment principles and practices can be used to support educators in achieving the goals of the LDA, including asset-based behaviors and mindsets, targeted and integrated ELD, and assessment and progress monitoring for EL student achievement. Participants in this session will have the opportunity to work together reading, synthesizing, and developing ideas for implementing formative assessment for English Learners. They will use processes such as jigsaw reading and small group discussion. During this session, participants will have access to the framework and examples of practice. Participants will also have the opportunity to discuss and reflect on the ways they can implement this framework in role-specific contexts, e.g, leaders can collaborate on how to facilitate program alignment and build teacher capacity. Teachers can collectively consider ways they use evidence on a daily basis to gauge student language and content learning.
